Heart Disease

The Lifestyle Heart Trial was the first randomized clinical study proving that the progression of heart disease could be reversed by making intensive lifestyle changes, whereas arteries got progressively more clogged in the usual-care group. There were 2.5 times fewer cardiac events and a 91% reduction in chest pain in the lifestyle change group. PET scans showed that 99% of the lifestyle change group stopped or reversed heart disease, but only 5% of the usual-care group improved.
